COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Length: 5 x 8-hour days
Target Audience: Technicians & Service Personnel

Applied Failure Analysis Level One focuses on basic principles of wear and fractures as well as managing the failure analysis process itself to arrive at the most probable root cause of failure. After instruction in these basics, you will learn to apply these fundamentals to major component failures within the internal combustion engine. The course consists of classroom instruction and laboratory exercises concluding with case studies of failures that have occurred in the field.

PPE Required

Students are asked to bring with them their own PPE as there may be a chance to observe a failure that has happened in the shop or field.

None.

After completion of the course the participant will have covered:

• Basic Metallurgy

• Basic Principles of Fractures

• Basic Principles of Wear

• Failure Analysis of Engine Bearings

• Failure Analysis of Crankshafts

• Failure Analysis of Connecting Rods

• Failure Analysis of Pistons, Rings and Liners

• Failure Analysis of Engine Valves

 

This course requires successful completion of a written examination with a passing grade of 80% and the presentation of a report of the case study that you have evaluated.
