COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Length: 4 x 10-hour days or 3 x 10-hour days ((no engine/emission system)
Target Audience: Ticketed Service Technicians

This medium track type tractor course pertains to the Caterpillar D6T track type tractor. The course will discuss the C9.3 diesel engine and its emission system. Also, to be discussed will be the hydraulics, steering, powertrain, electrical control, and new tractor features.

Note: Customer must supply machine for practical portion of class to be available throughout the class duration.

PPE Required

Participants must provide their own safety glasses, steel-toed footwear, gloves, hard hat, hearing protection, and coveralls with Hi-Visibility Markings.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

After completion of the course the participant should be able to:

  • Locate and identify all the major D6T track type tractor machine components

  • Locate and identify all filters, dipsticks, indicators, fill tubes, drains, and test points

  • Locate and identify the major components and explain operation of the C9.3 engine along with the Tier 4 Final emission solution NOTE: 4-day class only

  • Trace the flow of fuel, oil, air, coolant and DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) throughout the engine

  • Trace the flow of oil throughout all hydraulic components and explain operation

  • Understand and be able to test the hydraulic system and how each component corresponds with the entire system

  • Explain operation of the torque divider and powertrain transmission

  • Perform testing and adjusting on the powertrain and braking system

  • Explain and perform testing and adjusting on the differential steering system

  • Locate all controls in the new operator’s station

  • Explain the operation of the new tractor features

  • Understand the correlation between different ECMs on the machine

Successful completion of a written examination with a passing grade of 80%.
