What is a Finning apprentice service engineer?
You will train to become a Finning service engineer. Our engineers are skilled practical personnel who repair and maintain Cat® equipment. Our qualified service engineers can be workshop or site based.
I'm interested in becoming a Finning engineer through the apprenticeship programme - how do I apply?
Recruitment open until 28th February 2022.
Further details can be found in our brochure here.
What qualifications do I ideally need to have to apply?
You will have a predicted grade or would have obtained a GCSE (or equivalent) minimum Grade 4 in maths, English and Science. We also ask that you display a strong interest/aptitude in engineering through work experience or hobbies.
How often do you recruit?
We recruit once a year for our service engineering apprenticeship positions. We start the recruitment process in the first quarter of each calendar year. If you are successful you will be made an offer ready to join us in September 2022.
How long does the recruitment process take?
The recruitment process takes between three and six months.
What is included in the recruitment process?
All our apprentices go through the same 4 step process:
How long is the apprenticeship for?
This is a 4-year programme, the time frame will depend on the needs of the business as years 3 and 4 are used for specialisation of apprenticeship standard. During the first two years of the apprenticeship you will develop skills in maintenance, repair and troubleshooting, the next two years will allow you to develop advanced diagnostic skills and repair techniques that are tailored to you with a focus on your potential final position with Finning.
What apprenticeship will I study for?
The apprenticeship will be delivered over four years. At the end you will be awarded with a nationally recognised Apprenticeship Standard as a Land Based Service Engineering Technician.
What does the apprenticeship programme consist of?
You will attend block based training based at Cannock, normally 2 weeks at a time, every 6-8 weeks. The apprenticeship standard can be found here which details the full training. In addition to this you will be completing the Caterpillar University apprenticeship route, with online modules. You will then put all that you have learnt into practical exercises working alongside engineers at your branch.
Will my accommodation and travel be paid for by the company?

Am I guaranteed a job at the end of my apprenticeship?
