Kent-based waste management company TW Services has invested in a brand new, tailored Cat® 328DLCR hydraulic excavator from Finning, to help support waste stockpile management applications in the county. The new machine features three-way hydraulic rotator sheer lines that allow a number of work tools to be added to the unit, giving it greater versatility.
The new Cat 328 hydraulic excavator has been specially engineered with added heavy protection to the frame. The three-way hydraulic rotator sheer lines gives the machine the capability to become multi-purpose when it carries out work, both within the TW waste management facility and out on site at their various remediation projects. This gives TW Services a higher rate of productivity and will join a number of Cat machines on the company’s fleet, including Cat 950K and 966H wheel loaders and M318 and M322 material handlers, a Cat D6 track-type tractor and Cat 320D excavators.
Spencer Ray, Managing Director at TW Services, said: “Thanks to an increase in both waste throughput from the East Kent Waste Project and some exciting upcoming remediation schemes, we presented Finning with a specification that would allow us to enjoy the benefits associated with increased productivity at a lower operating cost and flexibility surrounding application when compared to other machines. The new Cat 328 is able to accomplish tasks in applications where space isn’t a factor, without losing out on power or production levels. This was a crucial factor in deciding to choose another Cat machine from Finning.”
“We have the capability to handle 750,000 tonnes of waste and the new machine will help to optimise the rate of throughput and maximise the proportion of material that is recycled at our twenty-acre site in Sandwich, as well as undertake waste handling operations at remote inert recovery facilities we are managing today and moving forward. Cat machines are already tried and tested within our fleet and it was a fairly straightforward decision to invest in another.”
The Cat 328 hydraulic excavator is fitted with a Stage IV Cat C7 engine with ACERT™ technology, which uses fuel delivery, air management and electronic control to optimise engine performance. This results in an 8% increase in horsepower compared to its predecessors, offering the customer an increase in performance and the potential for a higher return on investment.
Dale Nicoll, Customer Account Manager at Finning, said: “TW Services is a major name in the waste management industry, and we have enjoyed a very productive relationship with the company spanning a number of years. We have worked hard to understand the business, its operations and to share best practice across the company.”
“Having this close working relationship means we are able to look at the challenges TW Services face, such as the advent of further inert recovery facilities and an increase in waste throughput from the East Kent Waste Project. It’s this knowledge and our understanding of Cat equipment that we’re able to recommend a cost-effective and flexible machine and solution to support the needs of an important customer”.
