Rob Cutting of R J Cutting on its use of the Cat 924K ag spec Wheel Loader
Agricultural contractor R J Cutting has slashed its fuel bill from 15 to 11 litres an hour, increasing its productivity by 50% with its purchase of an agricultural specification Cat® 924K wheel loader.
Having already clocked up over 600 hours since its purchase from Finning Caterpillar agricultural dealer TNS in July 2014, the new Cat 924K wheel loader has also opened up new markets for the business, which operates across Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex, employing up to 11 staff.
Commenting on the machine purchase and performance, RJ Cutting’s owner Rob Cutting said: “We were previously using a telehandler to do the work the wheel loader is now undertaking. It was using over 15 litres and hour and was quite slow on cycle time when loading equipment like muck spreaders, so we were looking for an alternative solution. Having tested other wheel loaders, we saw the Cat 924K demonstrated at Grasslands and purchased the unit with a finance and extended warranty package”.
“Having already done 600 hours with the machine, achieving an average 11 litres per hour, we have already saved about 2,500 litres of fuel. More importantly, our cycle times have improved dramatically thanks to the power and productivity benefits of the machine, and its ability to operate with a larger bucket. My operators are also happier, as the general visibility coupled by a rear view camera, has meant that they no longer need to crane their necks when working”.
“From a commercial point of view, we are now able to do more work, quicker, and have even undertaken new tasks using the machine for maize clamping. But probably the most important thing for me is the peace of mind. I have fixed my costs with monthly finance and the extended warranty means I won’t have any nasty maintenance surprises. The unit itself is far more robust than a telehandler, so I also expect there will be less potential for issues with the machine.”
The Cat 924K has been built to withstand the harsh conditions of the agricultural market. With reversing fan, 200-litre fuel tank and a choice of Ag spec tyres to suit all requirements, this machine is setting new standards in the field.
